Grand Rapids Kids (GRKids) is more than just a website. It’s an amazing resource for Grand Rapids
(and surrounding areas) families. Their site has a wealth of information ranging from daily family-friendly events, guides for families who just moved to the area, lists or restaurants in the area where kids eat free or reduced price, “best of” lists for a bunch of categories, articles on important & useful parenting topics, and so much more!! You really need to check it out if you have a family.
But one of the most anticipated things is their annual TOP voted health care providers. Every year they reach out to their subscribers to for nominations on categories ranging from Allergist, Chiropractor, Dentist, Mid-wife, OB-Gyn, Pediatrician, Speech Therapist…..and even Doula! Once nominations are gathered, it’s up to the public to vote on their most beloved providers, the ones that they trust their or their children’s care or health with. Votes are tallied and results are announced in the January Grand Rapids Family Fun Guide (pg.12).
I was surprised and excited to find out that I had been nominated for the postpartum doula category. You can imagine my shock when I clicked on the Top Provider link and saw my name & business listed as #1. Number one, numero uno, …. Say what?! But there it was, I didn’t know what to say, or do for a minute before I just cried. Cried tears of joy & appreciation for having wonderful clients & colleagues that nominated and voted for me, for this sudden realization that what I was doing really was impacting women & family’s life’s, and that I was living my passion.
Many of us don’t get to do what we love every day. I find it to be a gift that I have been able to pursue my dreams of being a birth and postpartum doula and that I get to work with some awesome women who have similar passions about women’s birth and postpartum health. But more than anything, I’d like to thank my clients! Not just for nominating and voting for me, but for allowing me into their homes, for the trust they instill in me to nurture & support them… my heart is full.
